Design Award for German Designer for Work on Audi Snook

Detroit, Jan. 15, 2008 – The German designer Tilmann Schlootz will be mentioned for his vehicle concept Audi SNOOK with the Michelin Challenge Design Award 2008 on the Detroit Autoshow (NAIAS) 2008.

This is already the second time the graduate of the Academy of Art and Design Offenbach wins an internetional design prize for Audi SNOOK, just on the last Frankfurt Autoshow (IAA) he carried off the treasured VDA Design Award 2007, that is endowed with an internship at Audi Design. Audi SNOOK rides on a sphere.

The visionary concept concerns a new vehicle category that implements the principle of agility through instability from aerospace technology. The multidirectional engine is realised by a spherewheel and enables the driver to navigate and steer his autostabilized cabin intuitionally in every direction, especially side- and backwards and to turn on a point. Beside a completely new driving experience, this creates a variety of new maneuvers, for fun as well as for security and the demands of urban mobility of tomorrow.

Tilmann Schlootz initiated the accordant technological research project with Wolfgang Mueller-Pietralla, Vice President of VW Group Research Future Affairs and Dr. Martin Weiser, Vice President of VW Group Research Electronics. It is in context with Schlootz’ diploma thesis “Future Research and Product Design” that deals with methodical similarities and potential synergies of the two branches and is supervised by Prof. Dieter Mankau, Head of the ITD Offenbach and Prof. Dr. Martina Hessler, sociologist at the HFG Offenbach.

The exterior- and interior-design model of Audi SNOOK can be seen on the Michelin Challenge Design Finalists Exposition at the Detroit Autoshow from Jan. 13 to 27, 2008.
