SINGAPORE: Singapore has launched a logo design competition for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in the republic in 2010.

It was also announced on Tuesday that five committees will be supporting the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC).

Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said: ’Everyone — Singaporeans as well as our friends overseas — can design a logo which they believe will best represent us, represent Singapore, represent the Olympic ideals, represent the welcome that we will present to the world.’

The logo design competition is open to all individuals, regardless of residency or nationality. There are two age categories — those aged 18 years and under can join the youth category, while the open category is for everyone else.

Each participant can only submit one entry online, through the Singapore 2010 website.

The design must embody three broad themes — the Singapore identity, the Olympic ideals, and a youthful spirit. The competition will close on Friday, August 29.
